Ballywarren Country House is the delightful family home of David and Diane Skelton, which they have lovingly created to reflect the charm and character of the late eighteenth century. Situated near Cong, on the edge of Connemara and close to the magnificent Atlantic coast, Ballywarren is set in six acres of farm land, criss-crossed by stone walls and grazed by sheep.
The garden is large, with plenty of trees and shrubs so on fine days you can sit outside and enjoy both the sun and the shade. On rainy days, however, you can simply fall into one of the deep sofas in the sitting room by the peat and log fire and read to your hearts content or play chess or one of the many other board games.
Diane and David have been welcoming guests into their home, both here and in England since 1980 and really know how to make their guests feel welcome and relaxed without intruding on their privacy. The bedrooms are spacious with king size double beds and full en suite bathrooms and all have sherry, chocolates and magazines as well as free WiFi.
Local attractions include a choice of golf courses, an equestrian centre, a falconry school, some good walks and, of course fishing on the lough, "we have our own Ghillie". The Connemara National Park is only minutes down the road and this truly is an area of outstanding natural beauty and not to be missed. Connemara is an endless source of inspiration to both artist and creative writer alike and in the constant changing light the drive is never the same twice.
